UK Steel Industry Jobs and Metals Recruitment
The UK steel industry makes the metal behind bridges, buildings, cars, rail and energy projects. Steelworks, rolling mills, foundries and forges run heavy, high-temperature processes around the clock, and they need skilled, safety-minded people to run them. Bernoullis recruits process operators, maintenance engineers, metallurgists, crane operators and production managers for steel and metals producers, and checks skills, tickets and references before anyone starts.
Why Steel Manufacturers UK Wide Use Bernoullis
In steel and metals a hiring mistake can be dangerous as well as costly. Heavy plant, molten metal and continuous shifts leave no room for guesswork. We look carefully at safety records, process experience and shift reliability, so the people we send can work safely in a demanding environment.

UK Steel Production: A Sector Under Change
The UK steel industry has been through major change. In April 2025 the government took operational control of British Steel’s Scunthorpe works, and in July 2026 it nationalised the company after a new Steel Act was passed, to keep the last two blast furnaces running (Anadolu Agency). Scunthorpe employs about 2,700 people, and those blast furnaces are the UK’s last source of primary steel (GMK Center).
Other steel manufacturers UK wide are moving towards electric arc furnaces, which melt scrap steel using electricity. That shift needs new electrical, process and maintenance skills alongside traditional steelmaking experience.
We help by reaching people who are not scrolling job boards and explaining your role honestly. For job seekers, that means jobs in UK steel production, metals processing and forging that match your skills and shifts.

How to Hire for the Steel Industry: A Practical Guide
Start with the process. A rolling mill operator needs different experience from a foundry worker or a forge hand. Write down the processes, the equipment and the shift pattern.
Next, be clear about safety. List the tickets and training each role needs, and which ones you will provide on site.
Then think about transferable skills. Engineers from other heavy industries, such as power, chemicals or mining, often adapt well to steel plants.
Finally, explain the shifts and the package clearly. Continuous shift patterns suit some people well, and clear allowances help them decide.
What we assess
- Safety training and record
- Process experience
- Tickets and qualifications
- Fit with continuous shifts
- Right to work and references
- Transferable heavy industry skills
