Why Engineering Recruitment in Northumberland Is Changing

Engineering recruitment Northumberland employers need has shifted towards clean energy and digital infrastructure. The Port of Blyth hosted the UK’s first offshore wind turbines in 2000 and now has more than 50 supply-chain companies on site. It has announced a Battleship Wharf expansion of up to £100m to serve the next generation of offshore wind projects. Nearby, the ORE Catapult tests blades up to 100m long and runs powertrain rigs up to 15MW.

Cambois, just north of Blyth, is the county’s new industrial hotspot. JDR Cables opened a £130m subsea cable factory there in June 2026, and QTS plans a data-centre campus worth up to £10bn, with around 1,200 construction jobs and 400 permanent roles. QTS says it will recruit within 25 miles. That combination creates offshore wind jobs in Northumberland alongside electrical, mechanical and building services roles.

Process manufacturing adds depth. Sterling Pharma Solutions runs a 42-acre API manufacturing site in Cramlington with more than 490 employees, and the county also hosts pharmaceutical sites in Morpeth and Alnwick. You can read more about the Blyth energy cluster at Energy Central. We recruit engineering jobs in Blyth, engineering jobs in Cramlington and across the whole county.
