Suffolk is building Britain’s next nuclear power station, runs its busiest container port and maintains offshore wind farms from Lowestoft. Bernoullis delivers engineering recruitment Suffolk employers rely on, from Ipswich and Felixstowe to Lowestoft, Leiston and Bury St Edmunds. Our engineers recruit engineers who know nuclear, marine and industrial work.

Why Suffolk Needs Specialist Engineering Recruitment

Engineering recruitment Suffolk employers need is dominated by one project. Sizewell C reached its final investment decision in July 2025 at a cost of £38bn, with the government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber as shareholders. The 3.2GW station is designed to power around six million homes. By January 2026 more than 2,000 people were working on site every day, double the number a year earlier, and over £3bn of contracts had gone to more than 400 UK suppliers. The project has pledged 500 jobs each for Lowestoft and Ipswich.

Sizewell C jobs sit alongside long-term nuclear work next door. In July 2026 the government confirmed that Sizewell B will run until 2055, supporting about 900 skilled jobs. Further north, Lowestoft has become an offshore wind town. ABP opened its £35m Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility in January 2025, and ScottishPower Renewables runs the operations base for its East Anglia wind farms there. East Anglia THREE, with 95 turbines and 1.4GW of capacity, is due to be fully operational by the end of 2026.

Suffolk also moves a third of the UK’s containers. The Port of Felixstowe handled about 3.6m TEU in 2025, and Freeport East links it with Harwich and Gateway 14 near Stowmarket. BT’s research centre at Adastral Park in Martlesham, sugar processing in Bury St Edmunds and the US Air Force bases add further variety. The Sizewell C website lists supply-chain opportunities. We recruit engineering jobs in Ipswich, engineering jobs in Lowestoft and across the whole county.

Lead sectors

Engineering Recruitment Suffolk: Our Lead Sectors

We recruit in every discipline, but these three sectors create most engineering jobs in Suffolk.

Nuclear and offshore wind

Sizewell C jobs cover civil, mechanical, electrical, quality and project controls roles, while Lowestoft needs HV, turbine and marine engineers for offshore wind.

Ports and infrastructure

Felixstowe, Freeport East and the Sizewell C build create steady demand for civil, structural, geotechnical and marine engineers.

Telecoms and digital

Adastral Park at Martlesham hosts BT research and a cluster of technology firms, creating network, software and hardware engineering roles.

Suffolk Projects Creating Engineering Jobs

These investments drive demand for engineering recruitment Suffolk wide. Figures come from published sources.

Sizewell C

A £38bn, 3.2GW nuclear station near Leiston, planning 1,500 apprenticeships and around £4.4bn of spending in the East of England.

Sizewell B life extension

Given the go-ahead in July 2026 to run until 2055, supporting about 900 skilled jobs and around 3% of UK electricity.

East Anglia THREE

A 1.4GW offshore wind farm with all 95 foundations installed by August 2026, run from a new Lowestoft base for about 100 staff.

Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility

ABP’s £35m port facility opened in January 2025 and will also base vessels for the Norfolk Vanguard wind farms.

Freeport East

Tax sites at Felixstowe, Harwich and Gateway 14, with a target of 1GW of green hydrogen by 2030.

British Sugar, Bury St Edmunds

A £19.5m evaporator upgrade cutting around 20,000 tonnes of CO2e a year at a factory that has run for a century.

Where we recruit

Engineering Jobs in Suffolk by Town

Open a town to see where we recruit and what local employers need.

Engineering jobs in Ipswich include Sizewell C supply-chain roles, port and logistics engineering, building services and consultancy work. The project has pledged 500 jobs for the town.

Engineering jobs in Lowestoft centre on offshore wind operations and maintenance, marine engineering and port work at the Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility.

These towns are closest to Sizewell B and the Sizewell C construction site, with demand for civil, mechanical, electrical and quality engineers.

The UK’s largest container port needs crane, electrical, mechanical and automation engineers, plus rail engineers for its freight terminals.

Adastral Park is home to BT research and technology firms, creating network, software and hardware roles.

British Sugar and Greene King, which is building a new brewery due in 2027, need process, electrical and maintenance engineers.

Gateway 14, part of Freeport East, is growing as a logistics and manufacturing site on the A14.

Haverhill has food, flavours and engineering manufacturers close to the Cambridge life-science cluster.

Major USAF investment at these bases creates work for civil, electrical and building services engineers with the right clearances.

Where Suffolk’s Engineers Train

Suffolk’s skills system is gearing up for Sizewell C. The project plans 1,500 apprenticeships over the build, and a new post-16 college on the coast is at the planning stage. The University of Suffolk in Ipswich runs degree apprenticeships, including a civil engineering degree apprenticeship taught at Suffolk New College.

Energy training is strong in the north of the county. East Coast College runs energy skills facilities in Lowestoft, and a new Lowestoft Energy and Engineering Skills Centre is being built. West Suffolk College serves manufacturers around Bury St Edmunds. These routes feed engineering jobs in Suffolk, but nuclear-experienced engineers are still scarce.
