East Anglia THREE: All 95 Foundations Installed at 1.4GW Offshore Wind Farm

Record-size monopiles and 115m UK-made blades mark a big step for UK offshore wind

Offshore wind turbines off the Suffolk coast

Construction of East Anglia THREE, one of the UK's largest offshore wind farms, is moving into its final stages. All 95 monopile foundations and transition pieces have now been installed around 69km off the Suffolk coast, turbine installation has been under way since spring 2026, and the 1.4GW project is targeting operation by the end of 2026. Once complete, it will be able to power around 1.3 million UK homes.

Europe's largest jack-up monopiles

The foundations were installed by Seaway7 using its jack-up vessel Seaway Ventus. The monopiles weigh between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes and stand 67 to 84 metres tall, and are described as the largest ever installed from a jack-up vessel in Europe. They were manufactured by Haizea Wind Group and the Navantia-Windar consortium.

Installing foundations of this size far offshore calls on geotechnical, structural and marine engineering expertise working closely together.

Record-breaking UK-made blades

The wind farm uses 95 Siemens Gamesa turbines rated at 14MW and above. Each has three 115-metre blades made at Siemens Gamesa’s factory in Hull, the largest blades ever manufactured in the UK, beating the previous record of 108 metres. The turbines stand 262 metres tall with a rotor diameter of 236 metres.

The first turbine was installed in April 2026 by installation specialist Cadeler.

Power for around 1.3 million homes

East Anglia THREE is being developed by ScottishPower Renewables with Masdar. The project has supported more than 2,300 construction jobs and is expected to create around 100 permanent roles in the East of England once it moves into operation and maintenance.

Projects on this scale are central to the UK’s plans to expand offshore wind and decarbonise the electricity grid.

Offshore wind careers

Offshore wind needs high-voltage electrical engineers, marine and geotechnical engineers, blade and composites specialists, and a growing workforce of operations and maintenance technicians. With several major projects under construction off the East Anglian coast, demand for these skills in the region is high.
